The series consists of three books, each describing one of China's major national highways: G318, G312, and G108. G318 spans the eastern and western parts of southern China, a thrilling and picturesque highway; G312 crosses the eastern and western parts of northern China, an ancient road steeped in history; and G108 stretches from north to south across China's inland, a mountainous and culturally rich highway. These three books cover the long national highways that traverse China's east, west, north, and south, representing the diverse landscapes of the Chinese nation and reflecting regional differences across the vast land. Therefore, we named this series "China in Transition."
G318 runs from Shanghai to Zhangmu Town in Tibet, crossing east to west with a total length of nearly 5,400 kilometers. It is China's longest, most beautiful, and most challenging national highway, showcasing the differences between the eastern and western regions. The section from Chengdu to Lhasa is part of the Southern Sichuan-Tibet Highway, while the section from Lhasa to Zhangmu belongs to the China-Nepal Highway. To gather the most accurate information, we organized photographers and a convoy to conduct field research on G318 from Chengdu to Zhangmu. Here, they will share with you the beautiful scenery, mysterious attractions, and authoritative insights along the way. This book includes three chapters, over 300 photos, and 19 maps. The "Route" chapter provides a detailed introduction to the road conditions and scenery along G318, allowing you to deeply experience the vast differences between China's east and west. The "Scenery" chapter comprehensively describes the picturesque landscapes along G318, immersing you in the beauty of the scenery.
