Creation is a language, and technique is the color of this language. In the end, this color will dye your entire life. This book introduces the history and current state of fashion illustration, the human figure representation in fashion illustration, the hand-drawing techniques of fashion illustration, and the basic entry-level of computer-generated fashion rendering. Fashion is a product that combines artistry and practicality, serving as a synthesis between the two. Therefore, it demands a high aesthetic sense from fashion designers, requiring them to grasp both the beauty of life and the "beauty" within art. Fashion designers need to express their inner design inspiration and concepts directly, and this is achieved through fashion illustration, which is also the direct reason for its development and continuation. Driven by a love for fashion, the author enrolled in the Fashion Art and Design program at Donghua University (formerly China Textile University). During their studies, they were fortunate to receive guidance and support from numerous renowned experts and scholars, and actively participated in domestic and international fashion design competitions, showcasing their interpretation of fashion. Among them, five knitted works were collected by the New Zealand Wool Board. After graduation, the author became a faculty member in a university's fashion program. While teaching, they reflected on the fact that traditional fashion illustration remained rooted in manual drawing, focusing on basic techniques. However, today, computers have brought a revolution to the field of visual arts with their innovative language forms and powerful functions, significantly altering people's aesthetic perceptions. Many fashion companies have already adopted computer-generated fashion rendering, yet our teaching methods still adhere to traditional approaches. As a result, the talent cultivated will inevitably fall out of sync with the market. Therefore, in their spare time, the author summarized years of teaching experience and compiled this book, "Fashion Illustration: Hand-Drawn Techniques and Computer Modeling," combining manual drawing with digital technology. It is hoped that this book will provide inspiration for students in art and design programs at higher education institutions and those in related fields through fashion training classes. Finally, gratitude is extended to the students of the Fashion Design program at Shanghai Textile Industry Worker University for their strong support and cooperation in our writing efforts.
