Features: Adapted from the 30-episode television drama series, which was recently broadcast by China Central Television (CCTV). It follows the growth experiences of women with similar family backgrounds, the conflicts and entanglements between two families, and extends to the various profound social contradictions within that society. The two women live on the same lane, though their family backgrounds and life paths differ, in the old China during the Beiyang Warlord period, neither could escape the tragic fate imposed by society, regardless of how they fought: women were always accessories to men. Women from poor families, without male support, struggled to secure even basic rights to survival. Women from official families also faced tragic destinies: either enduring their husband's infidelity, becoming playthings or tools for men's advancement, or serving as mistresses. All women waged various forms of resistance, yet due to the irrationality of the social system, their individual struggles could not achieve fundamental breakthroughs.
