Features: The subject Olympiad (shortened as Subject Olympiad) is one of the most extensive, widely participated, and influential student subject competitions for primary and secondary school students in China. Book Usage Instructions:
1. To help students expand their foundational knowledge and develop basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as to cultivate initial English communication and reading abilities, develop intelligence, and enhance thinking, observation, attention, memory, imagination, association, and exam-taking skills, this book strictly follows the (), emphasizing key and difficult points, and provides guidance and training on problem-solving methods, approaches, and techniques for each unit's specific content.
2. Each unit is divided into two parts: Part 1: Olympiad Guide, introducing Olympiad content, question types, and solving techniques; Part 2: Olympiad Sample Test, familiarizing students with various question formats, solving methods, and techniques. The difficulty level of questions is moderate, allowing students to gradually build confidence.
3. Part 1 outlines the following for each unit's specific content:
- Phonetics: Requires students to correctly pronounce words using international phonetic symbols, master pronunciation rules, remember the sounds of vowel letter combinations, and understand the rules for consonant letters and combinations. - Vocabulary: Typically includes completing words, word substitution, and spelling out missing words in sentences, mainly assessing mastery of vocabulary.
- Communication: Often uses situational dialogues, with final exam questions involving picture-based dialogue completion or completing dialogues based on given words. Solving technique: First determine the language context, communication task, and cultural and customs of English-speaking countries. Correctly understand the meaning of sentences, analyze, and judge, identifying the correct option based on functional meaning and intention.
- Syntax: Assesses sentence transformation, including converting into interrogative, negative, tag, synonym, exclamatory sentences, singular/plural, simple/complex sentences. Solving technique: First consider the five basic sentence patterns and transformation rules, then analyze word forms, meanings, functions, and subject-verb agreement.
- Cloze: A key component of final exams, assessing reading ability while testing mastery of vocabulary, syntax, and grammar. Among four options, two or three may seem close, but context and logical pairing must be considered.
- Reading Comprehension: Assesses reading ability by understanding the main idea of a passage and selecting correct answers. Post-reading questions include detailed comprehension, inferential comprehension, direct answer, and word form/meaning, sentence transformation questions. Solving technique: Improving reading ability relies on daily accumulation, good reading habits expand and consolidate vocabulary, improve reading speed, enhance intuition, broaden knowledge, and focus on topic sentences and the first sentence of each paragraph. Skim first to grasp the main idea, then read carefully for details, review the entire text, compare with questions, and infer answers.
- Final Exam Questions: Often include intelligence tests with diverse, rich, and varied content, designed to develop intelligence. This section focuses on written exams; listening and speaking sections vary by exam location and will be provided separately.
