This series is organized by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of the Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series and is now re-published by Jinghua Publishing House. On this occasion of the re-publication, we extend our sincere gratitude to millions of readers across the country.
The Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiad (referred to as "Subject Olympiad") is a competition activity in China with the widest coverage, the largest number of participants, and the greatest influence among primary and secondary school students. Subject Olympiads are derived from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential middle school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of the Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness. These are precisely the core elements of quality education, which are also essential for future development.
Based on years of in-depth research on this activity both domestically and internationally, as well as a vast number of outstanding books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators from across the country who are dedicated to this field to compile and publish a series of books on mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information technology—comprising over 200 varieties. In terms of the variety, quantity, and quality of our Olympiad books, they are considered the most influential among peers both domestically and internationally and are the most appealing to primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose and characteristics of the "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series are as follows:
1. High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the latest [Curriculum Standards] of the Ministry of Education; exceeding textbooks means it closely aligns with the competition syllabi of various levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements. It aims to cultivate interest, develop intelligence, and enhance abilities.
2. Accurate: Scientifically precise and well-structured. Each book is designed based on the characteristics of the subject, with a logical and scientific arrangement. It follows a step-by-step approach, providing in-depth yet accessible analysis and comprehensive, detailed problem-solving methods.
3. Innovative: The questions are novel, unique, and engaging. They gather the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both China and abroad, representing the highest level of current Olympiad standards and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as innovative ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
4. Exquisite: Selected examples are challenging yet not obscure, flexible, and achievable. The focus is on generalizing from specific examples and applying knowledge to different contexts. It emphasizes multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches, as well as training critical thinking skills without resorting to rote memorization, making learning an interest and hobby.
5. Renowned: Gathered by famous teachers and collected from famous competitions. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited renowned professors from top universities, distinguished teachers from key secondary schools, senior teachers, subject leaders, and famous Olympic medal coaches to contribute.
