Features: Before the writing and design of this series of teaching materials, extensive and serious opinions were sought from many institutions across the country, especially from teachers who had long used the "College Japanese" textbooks. At the same time, a serious discussion on the writing of the new teaching materials was organized during the National University Japanese Teaching Symposium in 2000, while promoting and implementing the new syllabus. "Reading and Writing" consists of 10 lessons per volume, with a teaching time of 40-44 hours. Each lesson is composed of 7 parts: text, vocabulary, notes, word usage, expressions and sentence patterns, exercises, and reading. The topics of the texts are diverse, covering various genres, including articles that reflect the pulse of the times and excellent works of traditional culture; there are topics of interest to young people as well as works rich in ideological connotation. Each lesson is accompanied by two short passages in the reading section, most of which are related to the main text. Each volume of the textbook includes 3 appendices: Appendix 1 provides two sets of self-assessment tests, with difficulty comparable to the current volume and question types closely related to the College Japanese Level 4 Examination. Appendix 2 includes a master vocabulary list, word usage index, and expressions and sentence patterns index. Appendix 3 features two Japanese songs.
