Features: The four periods of the Tang Dynasty—early, mid, late, and late mid—each had different fortunes and destinies, and the poets' lives and the flavors of their works varied accordingly. For example, Li Bai's "The Yellow River flows from the heavens above" demonstrates the grandeur of the Great Tang; Du Fu's "Looking toward the capital under the" reflects his heartfelt loyalty to the mid-Tang; Du Mu's "Mist veils the cold waters, moon veils the sands" uses the scene of clear beauty and sorrow to contrast the rise and fall of the six dynasties, and this poem is hailed as a masterpiece; Li Shangyin's "Last night the stars, last night the wind" expresses his longing for his beloved through the description of a single night's spring breeze. The four poetry collections named after these four lines each have the brilliance of highlighting the essence, representing the respective creative themes of the two Du Fu (Du Mu and Li Bai). And this collection of selected works by other famous Tang Dynasty poets, excluding the two Du Fu, should include the outstanding among the thousands of authors across the four periods of the Tang Dynasty and the representative works among tens of thousands of poems, which is a great challenge for the "Collection." This collection not only includes more forms than "The Poems of the Experts," which only selects quatrains and regulated verse, such as songs and ci, but it also places greater emphasis on careful consideration of thematic classification and the representative works within each category.
