Features: Contemporary graphic design manifests in various forms, including products, environmental art, trademarks, and advertising. Today, designers find themselves not only as writers, entrepreneurs, and art directors but also often as television artists. In these diverse roles, designers must address the challenges: why and how to be innovative. In this book, designers from four young studios, along with writers, critics, and editors, discuss these pressing issues and showcase over 250 colorful design works. The designs range from T-shirt, costume, skateboard, and signage to their own magazines and animation designs. For clients like ACGOO Records, the Urban Teaching Center, and the Museum of Modern Art, as well as their own magazines, the Honest Studio created a series of vivid and innovative designs, revealing the distinct personalities and aesthetic perspectives of each designer in the studio. Their flexible design approach has produced a wide variety of styles for clients while avoiding an overly aesthetic-driven tendency.
The Basic Studio focuses more on concepts rather than personal styles for each project. As a result, their designs for many clients often carry a "overall concept," including the Museum of Modern Art, the Belgian Socialist Party, and the American Milk Gallery. The Hunter Studio draws inspiration from daily life for their clothing and women's accessories series. They skillfully utilize both high-tech and low-tech media, using simple materials like masking tape, drawing boards, and cutouts to create relaxed and playful designs.
The New York Studio at Styla exhibits a contemporary passion and vitality, as well as a relentless desire to create works that even surprise their clients and themselves. In addition to working with music stations, the Seale7 website, architect Andrew Tenon, and the Gap clothing series, they collaborate with DJs and publish their own poster series.
