Features: Piano Basic Course is a trial teaching material for piano foundation and elective courses in music majors of higher normal universities, organized and compiled by the Ministry of Education. This course consists of four volumes, with one volume used per academic year. The content and progression are arranged according to the Outline for Piano Teaching in Higher Normal Universities (Draft) issued by the Ministry of Education in 1981. In this book, we provide concise annotations on the genre characteristics of some works, the lives and creative features of the composers, as well as teaching requirements for piano performance. We hope to closely integrate the teaching of basic music theory, the understanding and expression of musical imagery, and piano playing techniques from the early stages of piano teaching, enabling students to achieve a solid and comprehensive improvement in their musical quality and professional level. During the process of compiling annotations, in addition to referring to the Cihai (Art Edition) published in China in 1980, we also consulted various types of music theory books and annotations from original piano scores both domestically and internationally. For practice pieces, since works by Beyer and Czerny have already been published as piano practice materials in China, this course has selected and refined exercises from those works while also incorporating a significant number of practical exercises written by other piano educators to make the book more practical and ensure a more comprehensive technical training. Of course, in actual teaching, teachers can select supplementary materials as needed from systematically published works by Czerny and other practice pieces in China. Some piano pieces in this book can be used as accompaniment exercises for songs (some of which are originally accompaniment pieces). This is specifically designed for the needs of normal university students who require learning to harmonize accompaniment. For such pieces, lyrics are often provided at the end. Additionally, teachers can select more and richer piano accompaniment materials from systematic vocal teaching materials. To standardize teaching, all pieces in this book are marked with fingerings, and some are marked with pedal indications for reference by teachers. Given the nature of piano teaching itself, the number of pieces in each volume of the course is arranged with ample flexibility to allow teachers to choose according to different situations. Furthermore, in the arrangement of teaching progression, teachers can also adjust the sequence of the material appropriately based on the principle of teaching students according to their aptitude.
