For manuscripts and previously published speeches or records of conversations, the editorial work primarily involved verifying historical facts and correcting text and punctuation. For speeches and conversation records that had not been previously published, significant effort was required for technical textual editing. The annotations in the collection mainly concern people, events, quotations, documents, and so on. They also introduce Mao Zedong's ideological viewpoints related to the main text through annotations or correct inaccuracies. We extensively researched materials, consulted experts, and conducted rigorous verification to strive for complete annotations. "The Collected Works of Mao Zedong" is another comprehensive multi-volume collection of Mao's works that reflects the scientific system of Mao Zedong Thought, following the first four volumes of "Selected Works of Mao Zedong." The editorial work of this collection began in 1992 and was fully completed by 1999, lasting eight years. The collection consists of eight volumes, published by the People's Publishing House and released in three installments. The first and second volumes were published in 1993 on the centennial of Mao Zedong's birth, the third, fourth, and fifth volumes were published in 1996 on the 20th anniversary of Mao Zedong's death, and the sixth, seventh, and eighth volumes were published on July 1, 1999. The first to fifth volumes are works from the democratic revolution period, while the sixth to eighth volumes are works from the socialist period. The total selected documents number 803, with 504 from the democratic revolution period and 299 from the socialist period.
