Features: This book is the General Code for Highway Bridge and Culvert Design issued by the Ministry of Communications of China. It is a revised version of the "General Code for Highway Bridge and Culvert Design" (JTG023-89). This code was developed in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Communications of the People's Republic of China, Document No. 1085, "Notice on Issuing the Work Plan for the Compilation and Revision of Highway Engineering Construction Standards, Codes, and Quotas in 1996," and was revised from the "General Code for Highway Bridge and Culvert Design" (JTJ021—89). During the revision process, the code revision team conducted relevant research work in collaboration with institutions such as the Jilin Provincial Transportation Science Research Institute and Chongqing Jiaotong University. It absorbed research findings and practical engineering design experience from other domestic units, drew on advanced international standards and codes, and conducted comparisons and coordination with relevant domestic codes. After the preliminary draft of the code was completed, opinions were widely solicited from relevant organizations and individuals through various channels. Trial designs were conducted on the main content of the code, followed by repeated revisions, and finally it was reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Communications in conjunction with relevant departments. The revision of this code, combined with the development and requirements of highway bridges in China over the past decade, has led to a relatively comprehensive improvement of the original code. The main revision contents include: 1. Clarifying that highway bridge and culvert structures should be designed for both limit states of load-bearing capacity and serviceability, and introducing three design conditions for structural design: permanent, temporary, and accidental conditions; 2. Modifying the combination methods and combination coefficients for action effects in highway bridge and culvert structure design, introducing short-term and long-term effect combinations of actions, and proposing frequent value coefficients for short-term effect combinations of variable actions and quasi-permanent value coefficients for long-term effect combinations; 3. Introducing the safety level and importance coefficient for highway bridge and culvert design, using different importance coefficients based on the severity of potential consequences of structural failure, making the design of structures more rational; ..
