Based on this principle, we revisited various theories in our country's translation field and ultimately decided to adopt the translation standard proposed by Professor Liu Chongde as our guiding philosophy—adhering primarily to literal translation with supplementary free translation, ensuring a perfect integration of both. Additionally, we studied and researched the works and discussions of domestic and international experts on The Red and the Black, gaining a deeper understanding of the author, the historical context of the writing, and the numerous characters in the novel. This greatly benefited us in quickly immersing ourselves in the roles. During our translation process, we also strived to learn from and draw inspiration from the skills of fellow translators and experts, absorbing many research achievements of predecessors. It is through this that we have produced the translation version presented today.
