Features: This volume contains the content of Marx's Economic Manuscripts of 1861-1863, notebooks VI-X, which is the beginning part of Theories of Surplus Value. Theories of Surplus Value holds significant importance in the 1861-1863 manuscripts. In this volume, the discussion of Adam Smith occupies the majority of the text. Smith was one of the main representatives of British classical political economy, who created a relatively complete theoretical system of bourgeois classical political economy. "In Adam Smith, political economy had developed into something of a whole, and the scope it covered had, to a certain extent, taken shape." Compared to the Physiocrats, Smith advanced bourgeois classical political economy to a new stage and, on many issues, reached the limit of objective understanding within bourgeois economic science. When compiling this volume, the translation of this part of Theories of Surplus Value was revised based on the German original of the second part, volume 3, issue 2 of the Marx-Engels Collected Works (1977 historical-critical edition).
