Quantum Mechanics, Volume I

Author: Zhang Banggu
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: This book is a summary of the author's many years of teaching and research work in the Department of Physics at Peking University. Since its publication in the early 1980s, it has been widely welcomed by readers and has been reprinted multiple times. To adapt to the new situation of quantum mechanics teaching in Chinese universities after the reform and opening-up, the second edition (1990) was substantially revised and supplemented, published in two volumes. Volume I can be used as a textbook or main reference for undergraduate students, while Volume II serves as a teaching reference for graduate students. Given the many new developments in quantum mechanics (both experimental and theoretical) over the past 20 years, the third edition will strive to systematically introduce these major new advancements to readers, so the content of the third edition (especially Volume II) has been further significantly revised.
The main content of Volume I includes the establishment of quantum mechanics, wave functions and the Schr?dinger equation, one-dimensional stationary problems, the representation of dynamical quantities using operators and transformations between representations, the time evolution of dynamical quantities and symmetry, central force fields, the motion of particles in electromagnetic fields, spin, algebraic methods for solving eigenvalue problems of dynamical quantities, stationary perturbation theory, quantum transitions, approximate methods for many-particle systems, and scattering theory. Each chapter is accompanied by exercises. There are also relevant mathematical appendices at the end of the book.
