Akizuki Junichi is a renowned contemporary Japanese writer, born in 1933 in Hokkaido. In 1965, he made his literary debut with the novel "Death Makeup," winning the Shincho. In 1970, his novel "Light and Shadow" earned him the Naoki Prize. He has also received the Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for Literature for his work "The Sunset Beyond the Distance."
Other notable works include "Heart Transplant," "Snow Dance," "Flower Burial," "The Sunset of the Gods," and "The Street of Lilacs in Solitude." With 50 novels and numerous essays and, he is regarded as a literary giant of modern Japan.
