Freud and Marx

Author: Ozben
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-04-01
Features: This book attempts to explain the relationship between subjective human life (as described by Freud) and the objective world of economic processes (whose development patterns have been examined by Marxism). The author argues that Freud's psychoanalytic theory and Marxism's dialectical materialism, though seemingly unrelated and even conflicting in terms of people's interests, actually have an inherent consistency. Psychoanalysis is a purely experimental science, and in terms of its perspective, it is dialectical materialist, therefore it can supplement and elucidate important conclusions of Marxism. Psychoanalysis and Marxism form a dialectical opposition, and only by unifying them can human behavior be properly described. This book provides a precedent for Marxists to study psychoanalysis, psychoanalysts to study Marxism, and the general public to conduct a more precise study of these two theories. As stated in the introduction: "Regarding Mr. Ozben, we can say without exaggeration that even if he did not solve the relationship between Marxism and psychoanalysis, his brilliant contribution lies in having raised this question."
