Features: The first batch of 54 titles in the "Contemporary Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Collection" was launched in September 2000 and achieved great success. The initial print run of 5,000 sets quickly sold out, necessitating a second print run of 6,000 sets in October. Publishing such a large-scale collection of linguistic works within a short period is unprecedented in the history of academic publishing in China. Since its release, numerous institutions and individuals have rushed to order it. Graduate and undergraduate students regard the Collection as a trusted guide, while teachers of all ages view it as a source of intellectual renewal. Practical evidence demonstrates that the Collection, launched by the FLTRP, has been widely praised by the Chinese linguistics and foreign language teaching communities. It will serve as a treasure trove to advance linguistic teaching, research, foreign language teaching, and applied linguistics research in China.
Building on the success of the first batch of 54 titles, the FLTRP is now launching the second batch of 58 titles in the Collection. The second batch of the Collection features five key characteristics:
1. Comprising 58 original English-language works, it covers 33 disciplines, an increase from the 26 in the first batch. The newly added disciplines include the history of linguistics, linguistic philosophy, cognitive linguistics, anthropological linguistics, the origins of language, and lexical semantics, thereby more broadly meeting reader needs;
2. It includes influential works by contemporary linguistic masters such as Saussure, Sapir, Bloomfield, Halliday, Chomsky, Austin, Grice, and Leech, ensuring higher authority and credibility;
3. It incorporates classic linguistic works published by renowned international publishers such as Oxford University Press and Harvard University Press;
4. It still includes expert prefaces, with a stronger team of experts than in the first batch;
5. It features a foreword by the world-renowned linguist Professor Noam Chomsky and the distinguished Chinese linguist Professor Jia Xie Xuan.
This Collection is a large-scale, open-ended series that will play an active role in advancing language teaching and research in China, as well as foreign language teaching and applied linguistics research. In the future, the FLTRP will continue to introduce the latest and most influential linguistic and applied linguistic works from abroad, continuously offering them to readers.
