Features: China began to pilot MBA education in 1991 and officially established the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. From an initial enrollment of less than 100 students in the first national cohort to over 10,000 students enrolled by 2000, MBA has become a frequently mentioned term in today's society, and its status and importance have gradually been recognized and valued by society.
To consolidate the sound foundation and development momentum of MBA education, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee commissioned the "China Graduate Education Development Center" in 2000 to organize experts to conduct qualified assessments of MBA teaching and education in the first two batches of 26 institutions granted pilot qualifications. In 2001, a qualified teaching assessment was conducted for the third batch of 28 institutions. Based on the results of the evaluation, China's MBA education has accumulated rich experience and achieved significant progress, becoming an important channel for cultivating high-level management talents. However, the current scale of China's MBA programs still falls far short of the requirements of the entire national population and economic development. Especially in today's increasingly globalized economy, how China's MBA and MBA education can fully demonstrate its strengths and characteristics while aligning with the world presents a new challenge and opportunity. Now that China has joined the World Trade Organization (WTO), rapidly cultivating MBA graduates who meet both China's needs and international standards is crucial for the country's future economic development. In the process of MBA cultivation, textbook development (including case studies) is a key component. The National MBA Education Advisory Committee and institutions with MBA degree-granting qualifications have attached great importance to this. Northeast University of Finance and Economics Press has previously made outstanding contributions in introducing internationally authoritative MBA textbooks, exerting a significant influence in China's MBA education community. Now, the press has hired renowned domestic experts to form an editorial advisory committee and selected experienced faculty members from prestigious domestic institutions with extensive MBA teaching experience (and Ph.D. degrees) to compile and publish this series of "New Series of Textbooks for Master of Business Administration (MBA)."
The compilation process of this series fully reflects the characteristics of MBA education and has made valuable attempts in the following aspects:
1. Striving to meet diverse needs. It considers the characteristics of MBA teaching, the needs of instructors, and is also suitable for self-study by business managers. Therefore, the textbooks emphasize a clear and complete theoretical framework while highlighting practicality and applicability, aiming to achieve a perfect balance between the two. They maximize the inclusion of cases, columns, and experiments to ensure the textbooks have both depth and breadth.
2. Adhering as much as possible to the modern MBA teaching model. This textbook first ensures the implementation of scientific and rational thinking methods, followed by knowledge delivery, and strives to provide various teaching supports and conveniences while adapting to advanced teaching methods.
3. Striving to align with international practices while catering to China's specific conditions, ensuring overall suitability for higher-level needs. Since China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), not only do domestic MBA students need to gain a deeper understanding of international practices, but an increasing number of foreigners are pursuing MBA degrees or participating in related training in China. Therefore, our self-composed textbooks should fully reflect China's characteristics in terms of management culture and legal environment, maintaining "localization" while embracing "internationalization," ensuring seamless integration.
In conclusion, based on the above features of this textbook, coupled with the solid foundation of the participating institutions and authors in MBA teaching and education, as well as the successful experience of Northeast University of Finance and Economics Press in introducing and publishing internationally authoritative MBA textbooks, we believe its publication will undoubtedly have a positive impact on China's MBA education. Of course, the book is inevitably prone to some omissions or even errors, and we sincerely welcome criticism and suggestions from relevant experts and readers.
