Features: The way of a merchant is not a fixed conclusion. However, people always love to explore what a qualified merchant looks like, their beliefs, abilities, and so on. We believe this exploration is very necessary because, without it, one will not strive to be like a qualified merchant, and it may not be easy to succeed in business. In Hu Xueyan, we can see the model of a qualified merchant—broad vision, quick-wittedness, strategic competition, and the courage to take action. These can be summarized in the following three points:
First, the way of being a person: Hu Xueyan believed, "Business is all about integrity and trustworthiness." This statement is very accurate because, around us, there are too many unscrupulous merchants who prioritize deception over fairness, resorting to fraudulent means that are appalling. Indeed, business and being a person are closely intertwined. Hu Xueyan became a "red-capped merchant" not just by running "small stall businesses," but by winning the trust of others and attracting a large number of talents to create wealth for him. Additionally, Hu Xueyan emphasized the principle of "mutual benefit" and never pushed his opponents to the brink. Instead, he believed, "If you have a way out, I will have one too." These are all highly effective principles in being a person.
Second, the way of mastering the situation: Hu Xueyan has always advocated, "Business is all about mastering the concept of 'momentum.'" What is momentum? In his view, there are three main types of momentum: 1. Business momentum; 2. Observing momentum; 3. Human momentum. During his business career, Hu Xueyan integrated these three types of momentum, maneuvering flexibly and connecting the upper and lower levels, turning difficult businesses into successes and achieving outstanding results in ventures others couldn’t. In short, he mastered momentum and firmly centered his business operations around it—finding opportunities, seizing them, creating them, and utilizing them, forming a "dragon-like" system. As a result, his business momentum grew stronger and stronger.
Third, the way of being a dynamic merchant: The so-called "dynamic merchant" refers to someone with a highly sensitive mind who can see business opportunities where others cannot and can find new paths where others have already succeeded. Hu Xueyan possessed these qualities. He avoided making his business "stagnant"—lacking vitality and merely sustaining daily expenses. Instead, he always employed strategies like "eight jars and seven lids" and "flipping in the eyes of money" to expand his business from a single point to a broader scale, from the low to the high, and from the small to the large. This is what is called "dynamic business."
In conclusion, analyzing the three aspects of Hu Xueyan—his way of being, his mastery of momentum, and his dynamic business approach—provides great inspiration. Some merchants may be able to do small businesses, but they either lack the ability to be a person, master momentum, or be dynamic. They often earn a profit but anger many people; make one profit but lose more opportunities to earn; push their business to the brink but fail to escape, causing countless pains. These are all taboos for those who want to become great merchants. If these people compare themselves to Hu Xueyan’s three aspects, sit quietly in a corner, and reflect deeply, they may realize their shortcomings and learn to be a person, master momentum, and become more flexible.
This book is titled "The Way of Being, Mastering Momentum, and Being a Dynamic Merchant" and provides a comprehensive analysis of Hu Xueyan’s successful business philosophy. It will help readers understand Hu Xueyan from a different perspective and offer practical guidance in real-world business scenarios!
