Features: Trigeminal neuralgia is one of the common diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region. Primary trigeminal neuralgia, whose etiology remains unclear, lacks a definitive treatment method at present. Patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia experience immense pain, not only affecting their work and studies but also significantly reducing their quality of life. Due to the inconsistency in the initial pain location, nature, and subjective sensations of patients, they may seek medical attention in multiple departments, often visiting neurology or oral medicine clinics. Over the long term, primary trigeminal neuralgia has become a common disease in both oral medicine and neurology, and it has also been a major focus of scientific research for medical professionals in these fields, with the hope of improving medical quality and ultimately overcoming the condition.
Among domestic reference books, there are few specialized works that comprehensively discuss trigeminal neuralgia. The editor of this book has gathered years of clinical experience and research in diagnosing and treating trigeminal neuralgia from both oral medicine and neurology, inviting many experts in the field to provide a thorough and concise overview, covering the anatomy and physiology of the trigeminal nerve, the etiology and pathology of trigeminal neuralgia, as well as its diagnosis and treatment. Beyond traditional theories and understandings, the book also introduces recent advancements and new effective therapies. Therefore, it serves not only as a highly valuable reference for clinical practice but also as a must-read for clinical medical professionals aspiring to work in this field.
We sincerely hope that the publication of this book will promote in-depth discussions and research on the diagnosis and treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, and we expect that in the near future, the pathogenesis of trigeminal neuralgia will be clarified, and a definitive cure for the condition will be found, ultimately benefiting patients and.
Trigeminal neuralgia is a common and frequently occurring, severe pain disorder affecting the facial region, severely impacting patients' lives, work, and studies, posing a significant threat to public health. During attacks, the pain is excruciating, and some patients even consider "suicidal" thoughts, though such cases are not uncommon. In clinical and teaching practice, the editor has found that there are few systematic references on trigeminal neuralgia, and some existing ones are outdated. Therefore, based on years of clinical experience and research achievements, and building upon the book on trigeminal neuralgia written by Professor Liu Xuekuan, while also referencing domestic and international materials, the editor has compiled this book, Trigeminal Neuralgia, to serve as a reference for physicians, teachers, and medical students.
The book is divided into 11 chapters, with a focus on the clinical manifestations of head, neck, and maxillofacial syndromes, helping readers understand the causes, nature, and causal relationships of pain to better address the condition. Additionally, it briefly introduces the prevention and management of complications that may arise during various treatments. The book also describes preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care related to different treatments, which is a distinctive feature. Over 100 illustrations and tables are included, making the book both informative and visually engaging.
During the compilation of this book, we were greatly supported and encouraged by the leadership of our hospital. We are also grateful to Professor Liu Xuekuan, a renowned domestic neurosurgical expert, for providing guidance and serving as the chief editor. Furthermore, we extend our heartfelt thanks and highest respect to Professor Qiu Weiliu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, for reviewing and writing the preface to this book.
