How to treat fatigue bone periostitis

Patient's question:

I recently had to train for a soccer match and frequently engaged in soccer-specific training. Every day, I would perform long-duration running and spinning exercises, which has led to leg pain in recent days. I went to the hospital for a thorough examination, and the doctor said it is caused by stress-related periostitis. How should this be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Fatigue-related periostitis is an inflammation of the periosteum caused by intense activity in a short period and inadequate rest. Once confirmed, the first priority is to ensure rest, enhance warmth preservation, prevent cold exposure, and avoid excessive activity. Oral anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications can be taken. Cold compresses and hot soaks using blood-activating traditional Chinese medicine can be applied, along with elevating the affected limb to prevent excessive bending. Periostitis is primarily caused by blood clots in the periosteum and vasodilation. If periostitis occurs again, it is important to promptly rewrap the injured area with an elastic bandage. Cold compresses can also be applied to the injured area for relief, or Yunnan Baiyao can be sprayed to promote blood circulation. In terms of diet, it is advisable to consume more light and nutritious foods.
