Features: The main features of Elementary Japanese (Volume 2) are as follows:
1. The content strives to be thought-provoking, scientific, and engaging. It incorporates a sense of the times and a wealth of information, enabling learners to understand Japanese society, culture, and people while studying the language, thereby continuously broadening their international perspective.
2. The goal is to cultivate learners' comprehensive ability to use Japanese. Through realistic dialogues and texts that reflect learners' daily lives, the book teaches language knowledge and appropriate expressions. Volume 1 focuses on dialogues to strengthen learners' practical use of Japanese, while Volume 2 uses both texts and dialogues to help learners appreciate the differences between spoken and written Japanese, as well as the nuances and functions of different styles.
3. It adopts the grammar system commonly used in recent years in Japan's foreign language teaching while incorporating some traditional Japanese teaching terminology to make the material more accessible for learners and easier for instructors to teach.
4. It fully utilizes the advantages of the multimedia CD-ROM, using vivid images and sound effects to enhance learners' interest and practical language skills. It also encourages learner autonomy, facilitating post-class review and self-study. If the publication of this textbook can contribute to the development of Japan's Japanese language education, the authors will feel immensely gratified. Due to the urgency of the project and the authors' limited expertise, there are many aspects of the textbook that fall short of perfection. We welcome criticism and suggestions from colleagues and learners alike.
In recent years, China's Japanese language education has made significant progress, with new teaching philosophies emerging. Broadening learners' international perspectives and improving their ability to use foreign languages comprehensively are major trends in current foreign language teaching. To promote this development further, we have written this Elementary Japanese textbook, referring to the Teaching Requirements for College Japanese as a Second Foreign Language (compiled by the Japanese Group of the Teaching Guidance Committee for College Foreign Language Education, Higher Education Press, July 2005, edition) and the Test Development Standards for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test () (International Exchange Foundation, Japan Foundation, February 25, 2002).
Elementary Japanese consists of two volumes, accompanied by a reference book Teaching and Learning and a multimedia CD-ROM. The authors are primarily Japanese language teachers from both China and Japan. The target audience includes non-Japanese major undergraduates, postgraduates, self-taught students, learners from various adult education institutions, and all self-study learners of Japanese. Completing Elementary Japanese Volumes 1 and 2 will enable learners to reach the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Level 3.
