Features: Sinology is one of the main manifestations of Eastern civilization, so the study of Sinology has always been highly valued by people. The people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are descendants of Yan and Huang; they all feel a sense of responsibility towards the inheritance and development of Sinology. Therefore, at the beginning of the opening across the strait, both academic circles actively sought opportunities for exchange and cooperation in Sinological studies, jointly expecting to elevate the level of Sinology.
Literary resources are the foundation of scholarship. Under special historical circumstances, both sides of the Taiwan Strait have possessed a considerable number of valuable Sinological literary resources. To realize the inheritable value of these resources, important institutions holding these resources on both sides of the strait began to discuss how to promote the joint construction and sharing of Sinological literary resources more than a decade ago. Over the past decade, although various practical conditions have hindered major steps forward in cooperation, at least the door to collaboration has been opened, and a common understanding has been reached. To date, some preliminary achievements have been made, such as the publication of collection catalogs, the integration of electronic databases, the convergence of academic terminology, the exchange of photocopied data, and the mutual complementarity of preservation and maintenance techniques. These are all commendable examples.
Although the progress of cooperation is somewhat slow, it has already made a good start, and it is believed that it will yield even greater results in the future.
