Initially named Studies on Yuan History and Northern Ethnic History, it was later renamed to its current title. It is published annually and is alternately edited by the Institute of Yuan History / Institute of Ethnic Studies at Nanjing University and the Institute of Chinese Cultural History at Jinan University. Its academic influence has been growing steadily, fully reflecting the fine academic tradition and style of the founders and scholars from the Department of Border Affairs at Central University (now Nanjing University) and the Institute of Yuan History at Nanjing University, who have dedicated over 60 years to in-depth research and continuous effort across generations. The journal, excluding the Preface, is divided into five sections: Academic Reflections, Yuan History Studies, Ethnic, Religious, and Frontier Studies, Research Reviews, and Translations.
