I. This manual includes approximately 46,000 Russian names with Chinese translations, serving as a reference for those engaged in translation and foreign affairs work. It includes both male and female names, but to reduce, only male surnames are listed, while female surnames and patronymics are excluded. Surnames and names are arranged in mixed order according to the Russian alphabet. This manual adopts the principle of identical names and translations, but the Chinese names personally chosen by individuals are limited to their own use. Other people with the same surname are translated according to the Russian-Chinese Transliteration Table. The translations in this manual (excluding foreign names) generally follow the "Russian-Chinese Transliteration Table" formulated by the Chinese Name Translation Committee in 1979 (see Appendix Five). However, some well-established and influential translations are retained appropriately, such as Gorky and Lermontov.
