"Korean Language Course 4" is an intermediate Korean textbook designed for learners who have completed the beginner level. It introduces the lives, ways of thinking, and traditional culture of Koreans, aiming to assist those learning Korean. The book is divided into 10 lessons, each consisting of a text, vocabulary and grammar, pattern exercises, cultural explanations, and discussion exercises. For the convenience of learners, appendices are provided at the end, including a vocabulary index and a grammar index. The text is divided into five sections. The first section is a passage, while the remaining four sections are dialogues composed of 6 to 8 sentences each. The vocabulary appears in the dialogues according to different themes and their frequency of use, while in the grammar and pattern exercises, the diversity of word frequency is fully considered. When explaining vocabulary, the book references authoritative dictionary definitions while also focusing on explaining usage from the learner's perspective. Some words have many uses, and for these, the book explains the usage based on examples from the dialogues. To help learners understand, examples are provided after the vocabulary explanations. The grammar is based on the beginner-level grammar knowledge from "Korean Language Course" (1-3) and gradually introduces advanced grammar. To facilitate understanding, the book specifically adds prerequisite conditions and contextual information when explaining grammar usage. The purpose of the pattern exercises is to enable learners to flexibly apply the language. To help learners express their thoughts spontaneously and habitually in response to external stimuli, the book lists the pattern exercises separately. This not only allows students to familiarize themselves with the characteristics of grammar within sentence structures and convert grammar knowledge into practical language skills but also helps in mastering pronunciation rules and vocabulary. The cultural explanations select articles related to the text content to introduce Korean culture, deepening learners' understanding of the text and providing them with a certain intuitive understanding of Korean culture during the language learning process. The discussion exercises are for learners to express their thoughts in the form of seminars or discussions after completing each lesson, improving their Korean language skills through written expression and oral practice.
