Does a urinary tract infection cause nephritis?

Patient's question:

A bit of urethritis, not knowing what illness it may lead to if it's serious, does urethritis lead to nephritis?

Doctor's answer:

Urinary tract infections are infectious diseases caused by pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. They are absolutely not capable of causing nephritis. Nephritis is caused by the deposition of antigen-antibody complexes in the kidneys due to dysfunction of the immune system. If a urinary tract infection is left untreated for a long time, it may lead to upper urinary tract infection, specifically acute pyelonephritis, and can even cause renal papillary edema, sepsis, and other complications. Additionally, patients need to maintain a regular schedule, take precautions against cold and keep warm, eat light and soft foods, ensure good ventilation, and drink plenty of hot water to prevent the condition from recurring.
