Features: The College English Intensive Reading series published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press is a recommended "Four Excellence" public English textbook series by the Ministry of Education. After two revisions in 1998 and this year, the third edition is now available. To assist students in mastering the textbook, building a solid foundation in English, and overcoming potential difficulties in their learning process while saving valuable study time, we have organized experienced teachers and English experts from key universities to compile a supplementary guide for the College English Intensive Reading (Third Edition) titled "College English Intensive Reading Study Guide" for the. The "College English Intensive Reading Study Guide" consists of four volumes, each containing ten units, with the content organized in the order of the texts. The specific content is as follows:
1. Warm-up Questions Answers: Provides reference answers to the warm-up questions at the beginning of each text to help students practice correct and natural spoken English, thereby improving their oral communication skills.
2. Text Background Knowledge: The texts are selected from original English works, covering a wide range of topics and profound ideas. The background is complex. To help students thoroughly understand the texts and comprehensively grasp linguistic and cultural knowledge, this section offers background information related to the language and culture of the texts.
3. Key Vocabulary Explanations: Based on the College English Teaching Syllabus, the compilers select 15 key and difficult vocabulary words from each unit for detailed explanations. The explanations aim to help students summarize memory techniques, introduce common collocations, and include typical exam questions for assessment, thereby helping them build a strong vocabulary foundation. Volume 4, in addition to selecting vocabulary for the CET-4, also includes key and difficult vocabulary for the CET-6.
4. Text Difficulties and Explanations: Based on students' actual English learning experiences, this section addresses various difficulties they may encounter by providing detailed explanations of as many difficult sentences as possible from the texts. Both English and Chinese translations are provided. For key and difficult points, the compilers are not stingy with explanations, while for general issues, they provide concise answers. Usage, examples, and explanations are appropriately detailed.
5. Text Annotations and Translations: Since some difficulties in the texts are explained in English, some students may find it hard to fully grasp them. Therefore, the compilers have translated the entire section into Chinese to help students better understand the texts.
6. Text Reference Translations: The compilers have provided accurate and elegant translations of the texts to help students fully and correctly understand the content. This is especially helpful when encountering complex sentence structures or culturally relevant language.
7. Distinctive and Commonly Confused Words: As English learning deepens and vocabulary expands, synonyms become increasingly numerous, making English learning more challenging. To help students master easily confused synonyms and near-synonyms, this section offers detailed explanations and distinctions for these error-prone and easily mixed-up words.
8. Text Exercises Answers and Explanations: All exercises at the end of the texts are provided with complete answers, along with detailed explanations for each question. The purpose is to help learners overcome difficulties when doing exercises and achieve the goal of not only knowing "what" but also understanding "why."
