The original book was written for students who had just started learning English, while the new edition is suitable for a broader range of English beginners and readers with elementary and intermediate English proficiency. To meet the needs of Chinese students, some content has been adapted, all entries have been provided with English phonetic transcriptions, and the scope of definitions has been appropriately expanded, with additional Chinese translations for some vocabulary.
