21st Century Annual Literary Criticism Selection: 2006 Literary Criticism

Author: Editorial Department of People's Literature Publishing House

Publish Date: 2007-01-01
Features: Just as production requires consumption, literary creation also requires literary reading, and even more so, mature and profound reading—literary criticism. Just as there is no production without consumption, without literary reading and literary criticism, literary activities lose an important constituent part, and literary production loses its interdependent subject and intrinsic driving force. "Sing and seek the voice of a friend." The fundamental purpose of literary writing lies in achieving an ideal scenario of spiritual exchange between people. Excellent works allow writers and critics to share the joy of profound understanding, where "the subtle pleasure is hard to convey," while failed works require critics to speak candidly, revealing shortcomings and pointing out issues, so that they can together experience the hardships of writing and the joy of mutual encouragement in overcoming difficulties. In either case, what we need is a healthy and mature criticism that is kind-hearted yet unyielding, vibrant yet not willful. By reviewing and selecting literary criticism every year, we aim to promote the maturation and perfection of criticism, thereby creating a favorable cultural and ecological environment for literature in our time. This is precisely the purpose of our tireless effort in compiling the annual literary criticism anthology.
