Features: Contemporary Russian Language: An Introduction is a foundational linguistic theory book that elaborates on the vocabulary, phonetics, word formation, morphology, and syntax systems of modern standard Russian. The content is designed to be concise and aligned with the language theory systems used in China's current major Russian language textbooks, selectively and cautiously reflecting new achievements in Russian language theoretical research. The purpose of this book is to help Russian language majors summarize and systematize the knowledge of Russian vocabulary, phonetics, word formation, and grammar acquired through practical courses in the foundational stage, elevating this knowledge to a certain theoretical level to bridge theory with practice and enhance the conscientiousness of advanced-stage learning. It also aims to cultivate students' ability to analyze and solve various problems encountered during their studies using linguistic theoretical knowledge, enabling them to develop preliminary research skills in language-related issues. This book may also be used selectively in the postgraduate stage of Russian Language and Literature programs.
The first edition of Contemporary Russian Language: An Introduction (compiled by Wang Chaocen, Huang Shunan, Xin Delin, et al.) published by Commercial Press in 1963 has long been esteemed in the Russian language teaching community in Chinese universities. It has been reprinted multiple times and continues to have many readers, even today, and has been designated as a reference book for postgraduate entrance examinations in Russian Language and Literature by some universities. This work is scientifically grounded, rigorously expressed, and accessible, providing a relatively comprehensive and systematic reflection of the state of research on Russian standard language at that time. However, with over forty years having passed since its first edition, times have changed, and science has advanced. As linguistic research has deepened, the theoretical system of Russian standard language has undergone significant transformations during this period. Contemporary Russian Language: An Introduction strives to maintain the scientific spirit and rigorous academic style of Contemporary Russian Language: An Introduction, while also reflecting the modern aspects of Russian standard language theory today.
