[A controversial woman for a hundred years] Empress Dowager Cixi, a pivotal figure in modern Chinese history, ruled the country three times behind the curtain, controlled the late Qing government, and directly influenced the course of modern Chinese history. As a woman, in the treacherous and dangerous imperial palace, she rose to the pinnacle of power through her wit and cunning. As a wife and mother, she wielded immense power but lost her husband in youth and her son in middle age, leaving people to sigh in sorrow. As Empress Dowager, she was meticulous and cunning, navigating the male-dominated power world, holding power in her grasp. As the highest ruler of the late Qing dynasty, she not only faced the bullying of foreign powers but also had to deal with the declining and precarious domestic situation. She struggled endlessly, yet could not reverse the tide. How extraordinary was Empress Dowager Cixi's life? How did she face the "unprecedented changes in three thousand years"? Say Cixi takes a humanistic perspective, guiding you into Cixi's inner world and exploring the life behind history. In January 2007, CCTV's One Hundred Lectures program began promoting Sui Lijuan's Say Cixi, and the same-named book was released by Zhonghua Book Company in February. The book takes a humanistic perspective, guiding you into Cixi's inner world and exploring the life behind history. The author uses a wealth of historical materials, traces major historical events, and skillfully processes them to fully showcase Cixi's ups and downs in life. The book is well-organized, with clear headings and simple language, and is accompanied by over a hundred precious historical photographs, painting a three-dimensional and vivid Cixi. It is engaging and captivating to read.
