Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm were German folklorists and linguists. Due to their similar interests and backgrounds, they collaborated on linguistic research, collecting and compiling folk tales and legends, hence the name "The Brothers Grimm." They were born into a family of lawyers, studied together at Kassel, learned law together at Marburg, and later worked together at the Kassel Library. In 1830, they both became professors at G?ttingen University. In 1837, they were dismissed from their professorships along with five other professors for protesting the arbitrary violation of the constitution by the King of Hanover. In 1840, they became members of the Berlin Academy of Sciences and professors at the University of Berlin until their deaths.
Together, the Brothers Grimm compiled Children and Household Tales, commonly known as Grimm's Fairy Tales, which includes 216 stories. Today, as beloved classic works, the fairy tales have been translated into numerous languages and published many times, becoming treasures of world children's literature and cherished by children everywhere.
