Patient's question:
A while ago, I had some discomfort in my abdomen. I went to the hospital for a thorough check-up, and the doctor said it was hydronephrosis. But I didn't have any significant symptoms, what symptoms does hydronephrosis actually show?Doctor's answer:
Generally, patients often remain asymptomatic for a long period of time until they repeatedly experience abdominal masses and a sense of fullness in the waist. The masses are often discovered unintentionally. The pain is usually mild, or even completely painless. However, in cases of intermittent hydronephrosis (due to ectopic vessels or renal ptosis), recurrent renal colic may occur, with severe pain radiating along the costal margin and ureter. This is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and decreased urine output. The pain typically subsides within a short time or a few hours, followed by the excretion of a large amount of urine.
