Features: Several years ago, we began working on compiling a medium-sized practical English-Chinese dictionary. At that time, our guiding idea was to create a dictionary that could serve as both a teaching dictionary for university and high school teachers and students, and a desk reference for people from all walks of life learning English. This compilation approach also aligns with the recent trend in English dictionary development abroad—primarily focused on teaching dictionaries while also incorporating the functions of desk references. Throughout the compilation process, we always kept the readers in mind, striving to highlight its practicality.
For Chinese learners of English, the most challenging aspects are often the countability of nouns, the use of articles before nouns, collocations of prepositions and adverbs with nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc., sentence structures of verbs, differentiation of synonymous words, and idiomatic usage. For these issues, we have provided as much information as possible within our capabilities to ensure that this dictionary truly lives up to its name and fulfills its "multi-functional" role.
To make it more convenient for readers, the dictionary has categorized the entries by level, indicating the appropriate level at which each word should be mastered.
