Features: To showcase the new trends in Chinese ink painting creation in the 21st century, promote the art of ink painting, highlight new talents and works, foster the development of ink painting, create era-defining masterpieces, and contribute to building a harmonious society, the 6th National Exhibition of Chinese Ink Painting was jointly organized by the China Artists Association, the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), and the Academy of Art of the People's Liberation Army. It was co-organized by the Chinese Institute of Ink Painting and the Liao River Cultural Industrial Park in Panjin, Liaoning Province. The inaugural exhibition was held at the newly built Liao River Art Museum in Panjin, Liaoning, in early June 2006. Subsequently, 380 selected works were displayed at NAMOC from June 15 to June 22.
The exhibition was launched in early April 2005 and, after more than a year of preparation, called for submissions from March to early April 2006. The call for works was highly successful, attracting over 3,000 submissions. These works revealed the following characteristics of the 6th National Exhibition of Chinese Ink Painting:
1. Large number of exhibited works: This was the largest number of works ever displayed in a national ink painting exhibition.
2. High quality of works: The pieces generally represented the overall level of contemporary Chinese ink painting.
3. Emergence of new talents: Many outstanding works were created by young artists.
4. Diverse techniques: Some works adhered to tradition, others focused on the use of materials, and some expanded on color experimentation.
5. Broad participation: The exhibition featured a large group of artists spanning different age groups—seniors, middle-aged, and young.
6. Contemporary atmosphere: The works reflected modern life while also showcasing distinctive characteristics of the era.
