What is the normal blood glucose level for diabetes?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been experiencing thirst again, and no matter how much I drink, it doesn't relieve it. I also often feel hungry and want to eat something. After going to the hospital for a thorough check-up, I found out that my blood sugar is a bit high. I don't know if I might get diabetes. I'd like to understand what the glucose level is for diabetes?

Doctor's answer:

A normal person's fasting venous blood glucose is below 6.1 millimoles per liter, and post-meal blood glucose after two hours is 7.8 millimoles per liter. If the venous fasting blood glucose is below 7.0 millimoles per liter and the venous blood glucose after two hours is below 11.1 millimoles per liter, diabetes can be diagnosed. If symptoms such as thirst, excessive drinking, frequent urination, and weight loss reappear, and the random blood glucose is below 11.1 millimoles per liter, diabetes can be diagnosed.
