Exploring Mysteries and Scientific Thinking
Life has existed on Earth for billions of years. Through long-term evolution, survival competition, and natural selection, humans have become a powerful force in the universe. We possess a highly developed brain, which is the most formidable weapon of any organism. The human brain has developed rationality that no other species possesses, as well as limitless initiative to explore the world. Throughout our long journey of exploring the world, we have recognized, conquered, and overcome many obstacles with the power of reason. However, in the vast universe we rely on and the expansive world we inhabit, there are still many phenomena and problems that we cannot yet explain or solve. These phenomena and problems, for now, we will call them "mysteries."
Behind these "mysteries" lie the secrets of the universe, scientific knowledge, and the rich connotations of culture and art. Most importantly, there is the future of humanity. To explore the future of humanity, we cannot rely solely on boundless enthusiasm but must depend on scientific thinking methods. The progress of history and the development of human reason have established the important role of scientific thinking in human civilization. History has also fully proven that it is the most reliable thinking method currently available to humanity. It tirelessly battles ignorance and superstition, shaping people's worldview and values, and has thus given rise to a complete system of knowledge.
Scientific thinking methods require training and accumulation through reading, learning, research, and practice, and this process is gradual. During this process, especially in childhood, one may exhibit immature thinking patterns such as a curiosity for the unusual. Curiosity is an innate human trait and an important motivation for exploring mysteries, but it often leads us to believe in unfounded rumors and strained theories. Therefore, in this book, for each "mystery," we select different perspectives and speculations, cite extensive evidence, and rely on scientific thinking methods to analyze and explore them. In the two volumes, we adopt different classification methods: the Natural Volume is categorized by academic disciplines, while the Humanities Volume is organized by the issues explored.
The exploration, reflection, and research on individual "mysteries" have repeatedly advanced and deepened our understanding of the world. Perhaps in the future, humanity's inherent curiosity will drive our young readers to find the hidden truths and patterns behind these "mysteries" through learning and exploration, contributing to the future of humanity.
