Features: As new media like television and the internet increasingly capture children's attention, do they still need traditional reading? The answer is undeniably yes. However, in today's world of abundant children's literature, what should they read? This is a question worthy of attention and reflection from society as a whole. Reading during childhood plays an immeasurable role in shaping a person's intellect, emotions, and personality, serving as essential nourishment for a specific stage of life. Yet, parents often focus on supplementing their children's rapidly growing bodies with calcium, while frequently overlooking the provision of rich spiritual sustenance. In children's reading, classic works that have stood the test of time and been cherished by countless readers are invaluable resources. They help cultivate children's pure and healthy aesthetic tastes and enhance their comprehensive qualities as modern, civilized individuals. A significant portion of these works has accompanied several generations of children through their childhood, offering gentle comfort when their tender hearts need soothing. We believe that childhood can be shared, and the spirit of childhood is universal. These high-quality works will undoubtedly provide today's children with rare literary nourishment and spiritual solace. This is the very purpose behind compiling this series, "Angels Among Us—Selected Works of Renowned Love Reciters." This series is not a comprehensive showcase of China's nearly century-old achievements in children's literature but is instead dedicated to the theme of "love," featuring two volumes of novels, one volume of fairy tales, and one volume of essays. During the selection process, we were once again deeply moved by the richness and boundless nature of "love." We had not expected that within this seemingly outdated and singular theme, there would be such diverse forms, and it allowed us to truly understand why "love" has become an eternal theme in literature. "Love," indeed, is an unaging narrative. From these works, we also discover that children's innocent hearts are so sensitive to "love"—whether it be familial love, friendship, teacher-student affection, or even nascent romance, they yearn for it all. I believe today's children share the same yearning. This series can nourish their hearts, helping them to experience, contemplate, and seek the true essence of love. At the same time, this series holds significant historical value. China's Children's Publishing House has recently published a series of classic works, such as the "Children's Literature Treasury" and the "Complete Collection of Bingxin Children's Literature" (Illustrated Edition). Their efforts to rediscover China's classic children's literature have made sincere and practical contributions to promoting a healthy and pure new mainstream reading orientation in children's literature and protecting the development of China's original children's literature. The planning and publication of this series, "Angels Among Us—Selected Works of Renowned Love Reciters," undoubtedly demonstrate their vision, magnanimity, and taste once again. The reading and promotion of children's literature is a long-term, comprehensive systematic project that requires the joint attention and support of schools, families, authors, publishers, and society as a whole. I believe this series will provide an excellent model for the reading of children's literature.
