Features: Bright and intelligent Miss Huang recently broke up with her boyfriend and was fired from her newspaper job. She was constantly melancholic and suffering from depression. Her girlfriend, Axiang, who was always sexually frustrated, took her to a brothel in search of pleasure, but it was no use. Her father, who had settled in Shanghai, persuaded her to leave the crime-ridden Taipei and seek a livelihood and love in Shanghai. In Shanghai, Miss Huang fell in love at first sight with Wang Yue, a handsome and down-to-earth man. Her life was reignited with newfound passion. However, her father disapproved of Wang Yue's poverty and tried to arrange a marriage with a wealthy Hong Kong businessman, but Miss Huang remained unmoved. Her mother in Taipei wanted her to marry an octogenarian former national representative, which she refused. Miss Huang secretly went to Wang Yue's hometown, Chongming, without her father's knowledge, causing a major stir. Wang Yue's girlfriend, Qin Li, a salon girl, repeatedly threatened him with death to break up with Miss Huang. Wang Yue's parents insisted that he marry a wealthy woman from his village, and Miss Huang and Wang Yue fell in love with each other regardless. However, their love remained full of twists and turns, thrilling and heart-stirring. The novel uses a delicate touch to depict the passionate and tumultuous love story between a couple with vastly different cultural backgrounds. It skillfully discovers a sense of romance and beauty in the trivial, mundane, and even tedious aspects of daily life. The characters are vividly portrayed, the plot is full of ups and downs, the language is vivid and concise, and some inner monologues and reflections are philosophical.
