Features: This book conducts a comparative systematic study on the heavy rainfall associated with the Meiyu front in the Yangtze River Basin, covering the circulation characteristics of years with frequent Meiyu and years with less Meiyu, the structure of the Meiyu front, and the development of two types of low-pressure systems. It also examines the occurrence and evolution of (sudden-type heavy rainfall), (frequent-type heavy rainfall), subtropical high marginal heavy rainfall, and non-Meiyu heavy rainfall during the Meiyu period. Using multi-instrumental observational data from field experiments, it focuses on the basic characteristics of mesoscale rain systems. Non-hydrostatic numerical models are employed to simulate the structure of the Meiyu front, mesoscale vortices, and mesoscale rain bands, while also discussing the physical factors influencing the heavy rainfall process. A mesoscale physical model for Meiyu front heavy rainfall in the Yangtze River Basin is proposed. The findings of this study hold significant practical value for understanding the formation mechanisms of Meiyu front heavy rainfall and improving disaster forecasting. This book is primarily intended for researchers and operational professionals in meteorological and hydrological departments, as well as undergraduate and graduate students in relevant fields at universities and colleges.
