Features: This book provides a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the mechanisms and causes of flood-causing rainfall in the Yangtze River Basin, with its main content divided into four parts. First, using daily precipitation data from 1960 to 1996, it analyzes the spatiotemporal distribution of precipitation under the climatic conditions of China, pointing out that the variability of precipitation in eastern China with seasons is closely related to the retreat and advance of the Western Pacific Subtropical High, the Meiyu Front, the westerly belt, and the monsoon surge. Secondly, it analyzes the three types of rainfall on the Meiyu Front: β-scale convective rainfall, initial cyclonic rainfall in the eastern part of the Meiyu Front (east of 115°E), and persistent rainfall in front of the deep upper-level low trough at the western end of the Meiyu Front. Furthermore, it analyzes the dynamic and thermal structures of the Meiyu Front, noting that during heavy rainfall, the Meiyu Front is similar to the ITCZ. Finally, it analyzes the main circulation configurations during flood years and drought years in the Yangtze River Basin. This book is suitable for researchers and forecasters of heavy rainfall, as well as reference material for teachers and students of meteorological institutions.
