Yuanben (Illustrated Treasure Edition)

Author: Chen Hongyan
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-12-01
Features: This series of books is written in various specialized volumes, including Song edition, Yuan edition, Ming edition, Qing engraved edition, minority nationalities' ancient books, shop engraved edition, family engraved edition, movable type edition, illustrated edition, and new literature edition, etc. It strives to reflect the new style and level of our country's edition research. Of course, some people are afraid that this format may lack uniformity and may result in repetition. The editors believe there is no need to worry. The format is largely unified, but it is neither possible nor necessary to be as neatly organized as a textbook. The editors recall what they read when they first entered the field of ancient books edition. There were Zhang Zhidong's Catalogue of Books Answered, Ye Dehui's Talks on the Forest of Books, Sun Yuxiu's Study on the Origin of Chinese Woodblock Printing, Ye Changchi's Poems on Book Collecting, as well as bibliographies and prefaces from various authors. It was truly a wide variety of books, and there was no need to stick to a single format or box. But they did learn the art of edition. With ten or so volumes in this series, some repetition in the content is not a problem. For example, some say Mao Jin's Jigu Ge should be classified as family engraved, while others argue it should be considered shop engraved. Each author writes from their own perspective, with different insights. A bit of diversity—like a hundred flowers blooming—is not as interesting as a single flower blooming.
