Author: Wei Li
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2003-08-01
Features: This series of books was planned and solicited by Jiangsu Ancient Books Publishing House about two years ago. The volume "Annotations and Collations" was originally written by another author. By the time the deadline arrived, due to certain reasons, the commitment could not be fulfilled. However, the sub-topics of this series had already been printed, and the publisher urgently assigned the task of completing it within three months. Although annotations and collations are one of the author's special topics, perception often overrides organization. Moreover, there are no existing works by previous authors to refer to for annotations and collations. In fact, the term "annotations and collations" is merely a colloquialism in the book world, not an academic concept, with rather vague connotations and extensions. Many related terms require clear definitions before proceeding. To accomplish this task within a short period, for someone as limited as myself, the difficulty is self-evident. Having accepted the challenge, I worked tirelessly and submitted the manuscript after a slight delay. There will undoubtedly be errors and omissions in this immature work, and I sincerely hope for the guidance of the learned.
The second part of my work on annotators and collators was rushed, and many references were directly quoted from Mr. Zheng Weizhang's major work "Comprehensive Examination of Literary Scholars," among others, for which I hereby express my heartfelt gratitude. Some citations in other parts of the book were not verified against the original sources, and this is specially noted here. Additionally, the examples of annotations and collations are limited to what the author knows and can find in available reference materials, not necessarily the extant works of the annotators and collators themselves. Readers are kindly requested to take note.
