Publish Date: 1979-12-01
Features: Mr. Ma Feibai has devoted decades to researching the "Ling De Chapter" of the Guanzi, and began writing the Interpretation of the Revised Ling De Chapter of the Guanzi in 1943. To date, this work has been revised seven times. His third draft was referenced and included in the bibliography of Guo Moruo's Collected Works of the Guanzi in the mid-1950s, with over 100 citations. Guo Moruo wrote a letter to Mr. Ma at the time, evaluating this draft and suggesting, "Write a comprehensive study—both in the form of an essay." Mr. Ma accepted this advice and wrote three essays, collectively titled On the Ling De. The annotations and interpretations of the original text of "Ling De" have also been revised multiple times. Now, we have combined both parts for publication, and in accordance with Mr. Ma's wishes, we have included a facsimile of Guo Moruo's letter at the beginning.
In this book, the author pays particular attention to studying the era in which the "Ling De" was written and the fundamental theoretical system that runs through its chapters, using this as a guide for the specific textual annotations. He has also conducted comprehensive analysis and research on the meanings of common words and specialized terms in "Ling De." In the annotations of the original text, he adopts a cautious approach, making changes, additions, deletions, or rearrangements only when necessary. He has put forward many independent insights on certain issues and original intentions related to "Ling De" and has engaged in rebuttals against differing opinions. It is believed that the publication of this book will contribute to the exchange of diverse viewpoints in the study of "Ling De," thereby promoting deeper research in the field.
