Features: "The Roster of the People's Liberation Army Commanders and Generals," which compiles the biographies and photographs of the marshals and generals promoted to rank between 1955 and 1964. The book is published in volumes. The marshals and generals are arranged according to the official list released at the time. Others are ordered by seniority from general to lieutenant general, and within the same rank, by stroke order of their surnames. Generals promoted between 1955 and 1964, including those promoted to higher ranks in 1988 (inclusive) or later, are introduced in the text but not listed in the roster order. The volume includes 10 marshals, 10 generals, 57 lieutenant generals, and 177 majors. The 1,360 lieutenant generals are divided between the second and third volumes. A few individuals later took a negative path, but to accurately reflect history and preserve the complete records, they are still included in this book. All available materials for the book were compiled by August 2005. Due to the large number of units and frequent changes associated with the individuals, some information remains incomplete. We will continue to collect data for further revisions.
