The television documentary "Millennium of Calligraphy" was produced by the Editorial Team of "Exploration and Discovery" at China Central Television (CCTV). It took two years to complete this book, which is the companion volume to the eight-episode television series "Millennium of Calligraphy" jointly launched by CCTV and the "Exploration and Discovery" program.
Through the introduction of six outstanding calligraphers—Wang Xizhi, Yan Zhenqing, Su Shi, Zhao Mengfu, Dong Qichang, and Liu Yong—from the Jin Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, spanning 1,500 years, the book showcases their distinctive personalities and diverse life trajectories. In addition to including the classic narration from the documentary and insightful interviews with scholars, the book also features supplementary writings by Mr. San Gui, a renowned senior calligraphy scholar in China, who elaborates on the concepts and figures discussed. This provides readers with a more comprehensive and rational understanding of the long history of Chinese calligraphy.
Furthermore, the book presents over 150 exquisite masterpieces of calligraphy by famous calligraphers and related historical artifacts, not only enriching readers' knowledge of the development of calligraphy but also immersing them in the splendid culture of the Chinese nation. The esteemed calligrapher Mr. Ouyang Zhongshi has kindly inscribed the title for this book.
