Features: The Lamp of the Earth is a major novel by Qi Jinian, a popular contemporary writer and winner of the first prize in the 6th New Concept Composition Competition. It tells the story of Kasa, an orphan raised in the depths of the snow-covered plateau, whose parents were tragically killed during a pilgrimage. Jian Sheng, a child born in the Northeast Reclamation Area, had parents who were sent to the area as part of the "sent-down youth" movement. After Jian Sheng's birth, his parents, eager to return to the city, abandoned him, and he was only taken back to the big city by his mother when he was ten years old. At nineteen, Jian Sheng's mother committed suicide due to a bribery case. Jian Sheng brings Kasa back to the city. Due to the absence of parents in their upbringing, the two were filled with deficiencies throughout their growth. Even in adulthood, they continued to struggle with inner shadows, constantly working hard to correct themselves and explore. In the end, they achieved their ultimate redemption and liberation through acts of repayment or sacrifice.
