What causes the erosion of the glans?

Patient's question:

Symptom Description: Erythema and exudation of the glans, can Prason be applied?

Doctor's answer:

Erythema of the glans is one of the symptoms of balanoposthitis. In the early stage of balanoposthitis, swelling, congestion, redness of the glans and foreskin, redness around the urethral meatus, and the appearance of sores, erosion, and superficial ulcers can be observed. Purulent secretions may be discharged, and patients may experience redness, itching, or a burning sensation on the glans, followed by pain. After erosion, purulent discharge with a foul odor may occur. In severe cases, symptoms may include fatigue, low-grade fever, swollen inguinal lymph nodes, and tenderness of the glans.
Additionally, if the balanoposthitis is caused by fungal infection (Candida), it often presents as redness of the glans, mucosal erythema, localized edema, smooth appearance, mild scaling at the edges, and the formation of papules and small pustules that expand outward, leading to glans erosion. Recurrent Candida balanoposthitis can cause dryness, cracking, fibrosis, and changes of the glans.
Urologists recommend that patients with glans erosion seek timely medical examination and treatment based on the examination results. Balanoposthitis is often accompanied by phimosis. Removing the excess foreskin is the primary step in treating erosive balanitis.
