Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: At the age of 12, I experienced my first nocturnal emission and began masturbating. This year, I quit, but I still have wet dreams almost every week. After a wet dream, I develop bad breath, and there is also a foul odor coming from my lower body. The bad breath subsides within a week, but the odor from my lower body does not disappear. I can't smell it myself, but people around me can. Additionally, after wet dreams, I have more dark spots on my face, making my appearance unattractive... Initially, my appearance improved slightly after a week, but then I had another wet dream. I can control myself from masturbating, but I cannot control the wet dreams... What should I do? The biggest problem is the odor, and everyone around me keeps their distance...Doctor's answer:
Boys entering puberty, as sexual function develops, may discharge milky white fluid from the urethra during sleep, a phenomenon known as nocturnal emission. This is a normal physiological process. After the onset of puberty, boys' testicles continuously produce sperm, while the epididymis, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and other glands also continuously secrete various fluids. Semen is composed of these secretions and sperm. Semen gradually accumulates and is eventually expelled from the body. "Fullness leads to spontaneous overflow" is the physiological basis of nocturnal emission. The interval between emissions varies from person to person; most experience 1–2 or 2–3 emissions per month, while some may have one every few days, all of which are normal. If nocturnal emissions occur frequently, such as once every one or two days, or even more often, it is considered abnormal and should be checked by a doctor promptly to seek medical help and guidance.
